....... Liquor Store Registers Bush Voters ......

Seattle, Washington – A cease and desist order was issued by the Superior Court of King County August 31st after a liquor store manager began registering voters for George W. Bush and the republican party. Angry over Hemp-Fest participants allegedly registering voters for John Kerry last weekend, the store manager Vicente Delgado felt he had every right to do the same thing for the opposing party. State officials felt otherwise.

"[i]Mr. Bush has been very supportive of our community," said Mr. Delgado[/i]

“The liquor stores of Washington are state owned and operated. As a state operated facility, we cannot support or endorsed a political party or candidate of that party,” they said.

They also told us the Mr. Delgado was giving away a free bottle of Tequila to everyone who registered, and this would be considered, in the eyes of the law, as an act of coercion. Mr. Delgado assured officials that he used his own money for the Tequila he gave out.

“Mr. Bush has been very supportive of our community. This was just my way of thanking him. Many of my friends, (most of them illegal) work for members of the Republican Party. They may have turned a blind eye to our legal status, but they will never turn their ‘greenbacks’ on us. Mr. Bush was working to allow more of us into the U.S. to do the jobs that most Americans are not willing to do, like being CEO of Enron, and other nasty jobs.”

Hemp-Fest is a local celebration and has no state or local governmental ties.
Proponents for the legalization of marijuana demonstrate at the festival each year. “We had officials there registering people to vote, but they were not giving out ‘samples’ to those who signed up as a democrat for John Kerry. We just want people to get out and vote,” said Moonunit Benson, spokesperson for Hemp-fest. “If they want to register people to vote for George Bush, why don’t they hang out at the gun club or something,” she added.

Local republicans working on the Bush campaign said, while they understand and appreciate Mr. Delgado’s wiliness to help, associating Mr. Bush with a liquor store is probably not a good idea considering his battles in the past with alcohol.

“It’s kind of like naming a driving school after Stevie Wonder, not a good mix.”

NEW YORK - Bearing flag-draped boxes resembling coffins and fly-swatters with President Bush’s image, more than 100,000 protesters peacefully swarmed Manhattan’s streets on the eve of the Republican National Convention to demand that the president be turned out of office.

Flanked by police in riot gear, the protesters moved through the fortified city, loudly and exuberantly chanting slogans such as “No more years.” They accused the White House of waging an unjust war in Iraq, making the country poorer and undermining abortion rights.

There were no reports of major violence and about 200 scattered arrests.

Police gave no official crowd estimate, though one law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity, put the crowd at 120,000; organizers claimed it was roughly 400,000.

NEW YORK - Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators toting colorful banners and shouting "no more Bush" took to Manhattan's streets on Sunday, the day before the Republican convention opens, to decry the Iraq war and President Bush's policies.

Organizers estimated 400,000 people turned out for the march, which led to more than 100 arrests and yielded at least one skirmish between self-styled anarchists and police. More than 400 people have been arrested in protests since Thursday.

STATUE OF LIBERTY LEAVES NEW YORK IN PROTEST!!!

NEW YORK, NY - Governor Pataki confirmed rumors that the Statue of Liberty had left her pedestal and was breast stroking across open ocean in protest of New York's hosting of the Republican Convention.

Negotiations broke down late in the week when the Statue refused to welcome delegates for a tour of her facility. Despite offers of a sea bird early warning system designed to deflect bird droppings by using fully automatic nuclear missiles to intercept the droppings before they could hit the statue, Miss Liberty stood firm and remained adamant that the republicans should not be welcomed.

Spotter planes are trailing the massive Statue as she heads out through the open ocean. Intelligence officials now believe that she is heading towards Boston Harbor to join the Tea Party Ship and fear the consequences should the two radicals join forces. If necessary, the government has verified, the rogue monuments will be dealt with harshly and National Guard units have been placed on alert.

John Ashcroft, speaking from the White House, announced that statues across the United States would be fully investigated and those with leftist leanings will be deported.

President Bush scoffed at the defection of the Statue of Liberty and blamed the French government. Bush admitted that the Bush administration had requested the French intervene, but the French sent back a commuique praising the Statue for defending the ideals of liberty in which she was originally cast.

A source close to the Bush campaign admitted that officials highly placed in the republican party have long considered the Statue to be a danger because of her French origins and her long standing "unmarried" status. Indeed, in a recent commercial running in States where the outcome of the election remains uncertain, other statues have accused the Statue of Liberty of being a closeted lesbian out to disrupt the morality of the country.

President Bush, the source of numerous protests on the streets of New York as the convention opens, decried the manipulation of the populace to disrupt an honored American tradition. "It just ain't American," Bush told reporters, "to diagree with your government when we're at war."

When questioned further, President Bush conceded that, "You just had to know it would be a French Statue that would raise all this ruckus."

GOP Convention Brings Jobs to New York Prostitutes and Drug Dealers

In the midst of continued attacks on the Bush Administration's record of job growth, and concerns the Republican National Convention would be an economic drain on New York, comes news that the convention has in fact attracted record business to the city's sex and drug trades.

Desiree Wankun, mistress of Desiree's House of Non-Complacent Harlots, reported that her firm's typically robust business has really shot through the roof. "Oh yea, I've never seen so many fat white men before," she said.

Here is the speech by Ron Reagan, National Spokesman for Stem Cell Research, as presented to the Democratic National Convention in Boston, asking for public support of stem cell research and endorsing John Kerry and John Edwards and their support of aggressive medical and scientific research.

BOSTON, MA (PRWEB) July 28, 2004 -- The following is a transcript of a speech by Ron Reagan at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, July 27, 2004:

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.

A few of you may be surprised to see someone with my last name showing up to speak at a Democratic convention. Let me assure you, I am not here to make a political speech, and the topic at hand should not -- must not -- have anything to do with partisanship.

I am here tonight to talk about the issue of research into what may be the greatest medical breakthrough in our or in any lifetime: the use of embryonic stem cells -- cells created using the material of our own bodies -- to cure a wide range of fatal and debilitating illnesses: Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, lymphoma, spinal cord injuries, and much more. Millions are afflicted. Every year, every day, tragedy is visited upon families across the country, around the world.

Now, we may be able to put an end to this suffering. We only need to try. Some of you already know what I'm talking about when I say "embryonic stem cell research." Others of you are probably thinking, hmm, that's quite a mouthful, what is this all about?

Let me try and paint as simple a picture as I can while still doing justice to the incredible science involved. Let's say that ten or so years from now you are diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. There is currently no cure and drug therapy, with its attendant side-effects, can only temporarily relieve the symptoms.

Now, imagine going to a doctor who, instead of prescribing drugs, takes a few skin cells from your arm. The nucleus of one of your cells is placed into a donor egg whose own nucleus has been removed. A bit of chemical or electrical stimulation will encourage your cell's nucleus to begin dividing, creating new cells which will then be placed into a tissue culture. Those cells will generate embryonic stem cells containing only your DNA, thereby eliminating the risk of tissue rejection. These stem cells are then driven to become the very neural cells that are defective in Parkinson's patients. And finally, those cells -- with your DNA -- are injected into your brain where they will replace the faulty cells whose failure to produce adequate dopamine led to the Parkinson's disease in the first place.

In other words, you're cured. And another thing, these embryonic stem cells, they could continue to replicate indefinitely and, theoretically, can be induced to recreate virtually any tissue in your body. How'd you like to have your own personal biological repair kit standing by at the hospital? Sound like magic? Welcome to the future of medicine.

By the way, no fetal tissue is involved in this process. No fetuses are created, none destroyed. This all happens in the laboratory at the cellular level.

Now, there are those who would stand in the way of this remarkable future, who would deny the federal funding so crucial to basic research. They argue that interfering with the development of even the earliest stage embryo, even one that will never be implanted in a womb and will never develop into an actual fetus, is tantamount to murder. A few of these folks, needless to say, are just grinding a political axe and they should be ashamed of themselves. But many are well-meaning and sincere. Their belief is just that, an article of faith, and they are entitled to it.

But it does not follow that the theology of a few should be allowed to forestall the health and well-being of the many. And how can we affirm life if we abandon those whose own lives are so desperately at risk?

It is a hallmark of human intelligence that we are able to make distinctions. Yes, these cells could theoretically have the potential, under very different circumstances, to develop into human beings -- that potential is where their magic lies. But they are not, in and of themselves, human beings. They have no fingers and toes, no brain or spinal cord. They have no thoughts, no fears. They feel no pain. Surely we can distinguish between these undifferentiated cells multiplying in a tissue culture and a living, breathing person-a parent, a spouse, a child.

I know a child -- well, she must be 13 now -- I'd better call her a young woman. She has fingers and toes. She has a mind. She has memories. She has hopes. And she has juvenile diabetes.

Like so many kids with this disease, she has adjusted amazingly well. The insulin pump she wears -- she's decorated hers with rhinestones. She can insert her own catheter needle. She has learned to sleep through the blood drawings in the wee hours of the morning. She's very brave. She is also quite bright and understands full well the progress of her disease and what that might ultimately mean: blindness, amputation, diabetic coma. Every day, she fights to have a future.

What excuse will we offer this young woman should we fail her now? What might we tell her children? Or the millions of others who suffer? That when given an opportunity to help, we turned away? That facing political opposition, we lost our nerve? That even though we knew better, we did nothing?

And, should we fail, how will we feel if, a few years from now, a more enlightened generation should fulfill the promise of embryonic stem cell therapy? Imagine what they would say of us who lacked the will.

No, we owe this young woman and all those who suffer -- we owe ourselves - - better than that. We are better than that. A wiser people, a finer nation. And for all of us in this fight, let me say: we will prevail.

The tide of history is with us. Like all generations who have come before ours, we are motivated by a thirst for knowledge and compelled to see others in need as fellow angels on an often difficult path, deserving of our compassion.

In a few months, we will face a choice. Yes, between two candidates and two parties, but more than that. We have a chance to take a giant stride forward for the good of all humanity. We can choose between the future and the past, between reason and ignorance, between true compassion and mere ideology. This is our moment, and we must not falter.

[u][b]Clinton, Gore soundly endorses Kerry as positive force for national renewal[/b][/u]

BOSTON - Al Gore, the candidate most voters selected as their president four years ago, appealed to the Democratic Party faithful on Monday night to work hard in the coming months to avoid giving the Supreme Court a role in another presidential election.

As the first major speaker at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, Gore held himself out as a living reminder that every vote counts.

"Let's make sure not only that the Supreme Court does not pick the next president, but also that this president is not the one who picks the next Supreme Court," said Gore.

Gore, who was followed to the dais by two former Democratic presidents, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, received an emotional response from Democrats gathered to nominate Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts as this year's standard-bearer in November.

"Bush stole the election," delegates shouted as Gore prepared to speak. Gore won the popular vote in 2000, but Bush won a majority of electoral votes after he prevailed in a Florida recount that was upheld by a divided Supreme Court.

But the former vice president and senator from Tennessee refused the bait, instead speaking in measured terms and joking from the podium in keeping with a Democratic script this week calling for positive themes.

"I know about the bad economy. I was the first one laid off," he said.

Gore directed remarks to supporters of third-party presidential candidate Ralph Nader who abandoned the Democratic Party four years ago, asking them, "Do you still believe that there was no difference between the candidates?"

To voters who supported Bush, Gore asked, "Did you really get what you expected from the candidate you voted for? Is our country more united today? Or more divided?"

Democrats left the hard-edged substance to Carter, 80, who declared that at stake in November "is nothing less than our nation's soul."

Carter, who was president from 1977-81, remarked that the Sept. 11 attacks brought unprecedented good will and cooperation around the world.

"But in just 34 months, we have watched with deep concern as all this good will has been squandered by a virtually unbroken series of mistakes and miscalculations," Carter said.

"The United States has alienated its allies, dismayed its friends and inadvertently gratified its enemies by proclaiming a confused and disturbing strategy of pre-emptive war," he added.

Clinton, who spoke to the convention in prime time, declared himself a "foot soldier" for Kerry and urged voters to rally against President George W. Bush and a Republican Party that believes in an America "run by the right people - their people."

Clinton conformed to the Democratic plan to avoid harsh attacks, saying, "We Democrats will bring the American people a positive campaign, arguing not who's good and who's bad, but what is the best way to build the safe, prosperous world our children deserve."

With Democrats generally avoiding red-meat attacks on Bush, convention speakers had the task of holding the attention of delegates - and the news media. For the first time since the marriage of television and politics, the major networks don't plan to televise tonight's floor session.

Even when it comes to the war in Iraq, Democrats have done their best to stifle dissent so as not to present themselves as a party of peaceniks during this time of heightened national security concerns.

A Boston Globe poll of convention delegates found that an overwhelming majority - 95 percent - believes that the United States never should have gone to war with Iraq. And nearly four of five said they opposed the invasion when it occurred last year.

Missouri state Sen. Maida Coleman, a delegate from St. Louis, is among those who feels strongly about Iraq. "This is an unjustified war, a war that is killing our loved ones. I think that people now feel the same way," she said.

Vermont delegate Charles E. Johnson recommended what he called a "truth and reconciliation commission" to analyze what happened in Iraq. "We obviously went to war without justification. We killed thousands of people for no reason. There should be a place where we can go to say, 'I'm sorry,' " he said.

Nonetheless, the party platform that Democrats intend to pass tonight reflects little of that concern. Instead, it states that "people of good will disagree about whether America should have gone to war in Iraq." It goes on to reflect the posture of Kerry, saying that having gone to war, "we can not afford to fail at peace. We can not allow a failed state in Iraq that inevitably would become a haven for terrorists and destabilizing force in the Middle East."

Delegates and Democratic officials at the convention argue that papering over disputes even as profound as war is a small price to pay for the unity they believe is necessary to win back the White House.

Fred Bunch, of Clinton, Mo., chairman of the Henry County Democratic Committee, recalled being a delegate for Carter in 1980 when the party was badly split by an insurgency led by Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts. Carter was unseated later that year by Ronald Reagan.

"There are no questions here and no issues, and that's good. Kerry has gone through the process, picked (John) Edwards and everybody is happy. And now we're going to throw this president out of the White House," said Bunch, who is on hand in Boston for the convention.

Democratic leaders agreed on the biggest challenge this week: introducing Kerry to Americans who know little about their Democratic nominee.

The public's image of Kerry is hazy, said Harold Ickes, a Democratic National Committee member and chief of staff of America Coming Together, an alliance of independent organizations dedicated to unseating Bush.

In what the Republican campaign sees as a soft target in the forthcoming federal election, lunatic asylums across the length and breadth of the country have been deluged with party political propaganda in an effort to bolster the Bush Administration’s flagging popularity.

Normally forbidden to vote in State and Federal elections, 25,000,000 inmates of mental institutions have been granted an obscure and temporary constitutional right to vote that can only be granted by an incumbent president.

After weeks of painstaking research by his campaign team, the little known law was uncovered and as the Administration is bent on retaining power at any cost, George Bush used his authority to enable the intellectually challenged among us to cast their ballots come Election Day.

Vice President Cheney congratulated Bush on "having the foresight, courage and humanity to enact the law," and is actively making contingency plans to bus inmates from safe Republican areas into marginal electorates should their opinion pollsters deem it expedient.

Donald Rumsfeld has been instructed to recall thousands of troop carriers from Iraq and Afghanistan, should it become necessary to utilize them for mass transportation of inmates on Election Day.

The President has also offered Air Force One for any last minute emergency vote-rigging, as it is equipped with a secure padded cell and the necessary straight jackets, which apparently were installed originally to restrain Richard Nixon and have remained unused since the last days of Bill Clinton, when he and Monika Lewinsky gave it a working over.

When the Kerry campaign got to hear of this, they said, "Well we all know you'd have to be off your rocker to cast a vote for Bush this time around, so we will retaliate by targeting prisons, illegal immigrants and institutions for the criminally insane."

As a last resort, they indicated they may consider talking to the 100,000,000 voters who stayed at home during the 2000 election.

Dick Cheney is too modest to list his past accomplishments as CEO of Halliburton on the White House Website, so I decided to give him a few pointers on writing a resume to submit to future employers when he leaves the White House in January 2005.

I would definitely keep the focus on three areas of expertise: (1) Setting up fraudulent tax havens to avoid paying US taxes; (2) Doing business with terrorist countries; and (3) Stonewalling criminal investigations without going to prison.

[b](1) How To Set Up Fraudulent Corporate Tax Havens [/b]

As CEO of Halliburton, Cheney did rack up a number of accomplishments. He increased Halliburton's offshore tax haven subsidiaries nearly 5-fold. The company currently has 143 subsidiaries, but only 36 are incorporated in the US. The other 107 are located in other countries. According to CitizenWorks.org, Halliburton is 8th on the Fortune 500 list of companies with the most offshore tax havens.

For tax purposes, a subsidiary is defined as a controlled foreign corporation if US shareholders own more than 50% of its voting stock, or more than 50% of the value of all its outstanding stock (directly, indirectly, or constructively) on any day of the year.

Here's how they work. Under the US tax code, American corporations must pay taxes on income earned in foreign countries. But if a company incorporates a subsidiary under the laws of a foreign nation, the subsidiary is not considered a US resident, it is considered a foreign citizen. This allows the US parent company to avoid paying US taxes on the subsidiary's income as long as the income is retained and reinvested outside the US.

So by filing a few incorporation papers and paying a small fee to a foreign government Halliburton can turn a subsidiary into a foreign corporation that can avoid paying any US income tax. Its that easy.

Overall, the tax saving generated by Halliburton's tax havens, and the correlative tax loss to American taxpayers, is enormous. For example, in 2002, Halliburton only paid $15 million of its $80 million tax bill (or 19%) to the US government. The remaining 81% went to foreign governments.

Bob McIntyre, the director of Citizens for Tax Justice, talks about tax havens engaging in complex deals to shelter their profits, "The more these companies can bounce things around offshore, the more profit that can be kept offshore and tax free," McIntyre says. "They shouldn't get away with it, but it is really hard to police."

This may be true, but I think Bob would agree that with Cheney in the VP office, Halliburton gets away with a lot more than other corporations do.

[b](2) How To Do Business With Terrorists [/b]

Cheney and Halliburton were a match made in heaven. Together they found ways to make money off of just about every known terrorist country on God's green earth, regardless of the strict US laws against it.

While Cheney was CEO, American companies were barred from doing business with Iran. So the company set up an address in the Cayman Islands. The TV news program 60 Minutes did an investigation of a subsidiary called Halliburton Products and Services, and discovered that the company had no office or employees. The only sign of the phantom company was a forwarding address to Houston, Texas.

The 60 Minutes reporter traveled to the Cayman Islands, went to the address listed for Halliburton Products, and found a building owned by a local bank and a bank employee who told him that when mail arrived for Halliburton Products, it was forwarded directly to Houston, Texas.

The company's luck might be running out because this particular subsidiary has recently come under new scrutiny. A grand jury is said to be examining whether it is truly independent and whether Halliburton violated federal sanctions by operating in Iran.

The LA Times explains that US companies are allowed to operate in Iran, but under strict guidelines requiring that their subsidiaries have a foreign registry, and no US employees, and that they act independently of the parent company. So in a nutshell, it boils down to whether Halliburton Products met those criteria.

The Treasury Department website details US sanctions that bar almost all trade with Iran, and says that, "No US person may approve or facilitate the entry into or performance of transactions or contracts with Iran by a foreign subsidiary of a US firm that the US person is precluded from performing directly. Similarly, no US person may facilitate such transactions by unaffiliated foreign persons," it says.

According to media reports, investigators are examining Halliburton documents dating back to 1997 - 1998 that relate to a Dubai based subsidiary that received several tender offers from Kala Ltd, which is a subsidiary of the National Iranian Oil Company. Investigators want to know whether the deals were completed and whether they were in violation of US sanctions against Iran.

So, is Halliburton worried? Apparently not. It has known since 2001, that the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) was conducting an investigation to determine whether the company violated the ban, and it still went right on doing business with Iran. In fact in 2003, Halliburton's subsidiary was used to sell $63 million worth of oil products to Iran.

Something must have turned up because the OFAC recently referred the matter over to the Justice Department for investigation, which in turn prompted the Justice Department to issue a subpoena that calls on Halliburton to provide documents relating to its business relationships with Iran. It will be interesting to see what information Halliburton turns over (if anything).

But this trading with the enemy is nothing new. While Cheney was CEO, Halliburton even used subsidiaries to make tens of millions of dollars off Iraq. According to UN records and industry executives quoted in the Washington Post, Halliburton held stakes in 2 firms that sold over $73 million in oil production equipment and spare parts to Iraq.

And yet, listen to what that pathological liar said when he running for VP and was interviewed on ABC's "This Week" on July 30 2000. "I had a firm policy that we wouldn't do anything in Iraq, even arrangements that were supposedly legal. We've not done any business in Iraq since U.N. sanction were imposed...," Cheney claimed. He really needs to get some help for that compulsive lying disorder. Its obviously out of control.

Halliburton has been doing business with known terrorists for years. Back in 1995, it was fined $3.8 million for doing business with Libya. The company sold tools to Libya that critics said could be used to trigger nuclear bombs. So be sure to keep in mind whenever Bush starts bragging about dismantling Libya's WMD program, that it was Halliburton that helped create it in the first place.

[b](3) How To Stonewall Investigations and Stay Out Of Prison [/b]

Halliburton is the all-time pro at fraudulent scams and war profiteering. And its top level executives are pros at stonewalling investigations and finding ways to stay out of prison.

Under Cheney's watch, the company was caught over-billing the government time and time again. In 1997, the GAO caught Halliburton charging $85.98 for a sheet of plywood that only cost $14.06. A 2000 follow-up investigation caught it charging tax payers for cleaning the exact same office space 4 times a day. So what happened to Halliburton as a result of these lengthily and expensive investigations? Nothing until 2002. Then it was fined $2 million for defrauding the government and that's it.

And nobody better think for one minute that the company has turned over a new leaf just because it was forced to pay a few million in fines. That is never going to happen. By now, I'm convinced that Halliburton estimates the cost of potential fines and lists them under "war profiteering expenses" when it submits the bid. Of course, that's if its even required to submit bid.

For example, as recently as January 2004, Halliburton employees were caught accepting $6.3 million in kickbacks from a Kuwaiti subcontractor. The company paid back the $6.3 million, said it fired the employees, and went right on as if nothing had ever happened.

In fact, the administration not only ignored the kickbacks, it gave Halliburton another $1.2 billion contract. Republican Congressman Tom Davis, Chairman of the House Committee on Government Reform, even said, "It's incomprehensible that the [Bush] Administration could give Halliburton another billion-dollar contract without fully investigating such serious criminal wrongdoing." Well incomprehensible or not, it did.

Here's another good example of Halliburton officials stonewalling and avoiding prison. In May of 2003, Halliburton was forced to admit to the SEC that it had paid $2.4 million in bribes to officials of Nigeria's Federal Inland Revenue Service in 2001 and 2002 "to obtain favorable tax treatment."

Halliburton put all the blame on a couple of lowly employees and claimed that none of its senior officers were involved in the bribe. But as the Houston Chronicle pointed out, "left unanswered is how a 'low-level employee' could channel that much money from the company to the pockets of a corrupt official."

So what are they asking us to believe? That 2 employees took a brown paper bag to an ATM machine and made withdrawals of $2.4 million? Oh Please!

We are talking here about ripping off hundreds of millions of dollars from the US government (aka the taxpayers), and yet no matter how bad it gets, there are never any arrests.

In fact, the SEC might even end up letting the $2.4 million bribery case slide, because it has far bigger fish to fry. As of July 2004, the French, British, Nigerian and US governments are all investigating allegations that Halliburton and three other companies paid $180 million in bribes to Nigerian officials in exchange for a $6 billion contract to build a natural gas plant in Nigeria, while Cheney was CEO.

French police started the initial investigation into the matter way back in October, 2002. In June 2003, the chief prosecutor on the case believed that there was enough evidence to appoint anti-corruption judge, Renaud van Ruymbeke, to expand the investigation.

This second case is far more complicated because it involves an international consortium between Halliburton and three other companies from France, Italy, and Japan. Together, they formed the joint venture TSKJ, a company registered in Medeira, Portugal.

TSKJ was then awarded the $6 billion contract. But here's where it gets tricky for Halliburton because the alleged bribery payments were made through TSKJ, and Halliburton owns 25% of the company.

According to the Washington Post, "at the heart of the investigation is the question of whether those payments amounted to illegal commissions, or bribes, to Nigerian public officials." The payments were made during Cheney's tenure, and according to the Boson Globe, "If such payments were made and Cheney approved them, he could be guilty of violating the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act."

Ex-Halliburton consultant, Attorney Jeffrey Tesler, says that Cheney knew all about the bribes. Tesler testified under oath in May, 2004 that he made payments to Jack Stanley, while Stanley was president of Halliburton subsidiary KBR, and Tesler specifically said that Cheney approved the payments.

His testimony is backed up by banking records that show that at least $5 million in payments were wired to Stanley through a secret bank account in Zurich. Tesler also testified that he paid $350,000 to another Halliburton executive, William Chaudran, through a secret bank account on the isle of Jersey.

On June 18, 2004, Halliburton announced that it was cutting its ties with Jack Stanley. But there's good news for Stanley in France. Judge Ruymbeke is said to be offering him a deal if he implicates Cheney, and sources within the French legal system say that there is more than enough evidence to indict Cheney on charges of bribery, money laundering and misuse of corporate assets.

[b]Its Definitely Time To Lawyer Up [/b]

Halliburton knows it's in big trouble with this case. Cheney might have pull in the US but not France. In February 2004, Halliburton hired Attorney James Doty, from (where else but) the Baker-Botts law firm.

Doty just happens to be the same attorney that Bush hired when he bought the Texas Rangers, and he was also general counsel to the SEC when it investigated Bush for insider trading while he was a director on the board of Harken Energy. What a tight-knit little group. I guess birds of a feather definitely do flock together.

Something I heard recently suddenly makes sense. Halliburton apparently purchased some kind of insurance policy to cover legal expenses that Cheney might incur as a direct result of problems arising from his employment with Halliburton. Now it becomes clear.

Well lets hope that's true and that they get Cheney a good attorney too, because the way things stand right now, he may very well be looking at criminal indictments for the some of the illegal activities he engaged in while CEO of Halliburton. With such a long history of corrupt business deals hanging over his head, its no wonder that he has heart trouble.

I bet Cheney longs for the good old days of Campaign 2000, when his only legal problems consisted of trying to hide drunk driving arrests, and worrying about whether, if elected Vice President, he could get into Canada since he was a two-time convicted criminal.

[b]WASHINGTON[/b] - For President Bush, the first family and Bush's top aides, the most generous foreign leader last year - by far - was Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah.

The State Department's annual tally of gifts to administration officials shows that Abdullah gave them $127,600 in jewelry and other presents last year, including a diamond-and-sapphire jewelry set for first lady Laura Bush that was valued at $95,500.

The Saudi royal family's gifts dwarfed those of other world leaders, according to the tally, and easily eclipsed Abdullah's $55,020 in gifts in 2002. Abdullah has been Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler since 1996 after a stroke sidelined King Fahd.

All of Abdullah's gifts, and most others, sit in the National Archives. By law, federal employees must report all gifts received from foreign governments. The president and vice president and their families can't keep any gifts worth more than $285, which become federal property. While in office, however, they can take the items out on indefinite loan from the Archives.

According to the State Department's records, Abdullah also gave the Bush family two sets of diamond and white gold jewelry by the exclusive Italian jeweler Bulgari and an $8,500 mantle clock "elaborately detailed in silver and gold vermeil."

Records say Bush received the gifts on June 3, 2003, while he was at a Middle East summit with Arab leaders, including Abdullah, in Egypt. Saudi Arabia is considered a key U.S. ally in the region.

Abdullah's gifts included ornamental daggers with ivory handles, worth $1,500, for Chief of Staff Andrew Card and national security adviser Condoleezza Rice; a miniature silver sword for Secretary of State Colin Powell, worth $1,500; and a small golden statue of a horse for Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, worth $700.

The second-largest single gift was for President Bush, from Russian President Vladimir Putin: a book of original watercolor portraits of the 43 U.S. presidents, bound in red velvet studded with precious gems. It was valued at $45,000.

Other foreign leaders gave Bush pens, watches, briefcases, ceremonial clothing, framed artwork and enough ornate trinkets to fill a small museum. He received dates from the president of Tunisia (valued at $60), an Afghan rug from the U.S.-backed president of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai ($4,500), and 300 pounds of lamb from the president of Argentina, Nestor Kirchner ($1,500).

French President Jacques Chirac, an outspoken critic of the U.S.-led war in Iraq, nonetheless gave Bush $1,900 in gifts, including a set of Christian Dior cologne, after-shave lotion and soap ($133).

The exchanging of gifts large and small is a long tradition among world leaders, not a way to curry favor, White House spokeswoman Erin Healy said.

"These are gifts that President and Mrs. Bush have accepted on behalf of the nation," Healy said. "Protocol dictates that leaders of nations exchange gifts."

To commemorate the signing of the first Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty in 1972, President Nixon gave Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev a Cadillac El Dorado. In 1996, President Clinton gave Chirac a TelePrompTer.

Clinton caused some controversy in 2001 on leaving the White House when it was revealed that he was keeping $190,000 in gifts received during his time in office. He eventually paid for $86,000 worth of the gifts.

"Yeah, it was kind of interesting at first, working for the federal government, for my country," Ridge said, sighing. "But lately, I don't know... it's kind of the same old, same old, day after day."

Beltway insiders have long whispered that Ridge was dissatisfied simply being George W. Bush's official scaremonger. However, Ridge had never publicly admitted his unhappiness until today, when he outlined his role in the Bush Administration.

"Well, there's not much to say -- I sit by a phone in an office, waiting for the White House to call," Ridge said. "When I get one, I go to the podium and tell you all there's a terrorist threat to the nation,[i] yadda yadda[/i]. Then I go back to the office and do some coloring or something."

Ridge's comments come a day after he released yet another warning to the nation to prepare for terrorist attacks.

But it's so much better than the one I released last month -- you know, the one where I basically said to be scared of everything? That was just so...
